About Litha

With scholarships from the Leverhulme Trust, TCM Trust and a Gladys Bratton Scholarship, Litha studied Composition with composers Stephen Montague, Andrew Poppy and Errollyn Wallen at Trinity College of Music, where she was awarded the Director's Prize in the prestigious Isabelle Bond Gold Medal competition. She also won the St Paul's Sinfonia composition competition and, together with Effy Efthymiou, won the 'Greenwich International String Quartet Composition Competition'.

With long-standing collaborator, Effy Efthymiou, Litha has been the recipient of grants and awards from Arts Council England, The Wellcome Trust, the National Lottery, PRS, and The Scarman Trust to create, write the music for, produce and direct large-scale multidisciplinary projects, working with artists from the fields of theatre, dance and film. 

Her recent concert commissions include 'Records Wild' (for recorder quintet), commissioned by Consortium 5 and PRS Women Make Music, premiered at St George's Bloomsbury as part of the Wilding festival in June 2013; 'States of Ice - Diamond Dust' (for classical guitar), commissioned by the International Guitar Foundation and premiered at Bath Assembly Rooms in July 2012, with subsequent performances at London's Kings Place and The Sage, Gateshead in October 2012; 'Egg Soldiers' (for percussion quartet), premiered by acclaimed percussion group Ensemble Bash at Kettle's Yard, Cambridge in May 2012; 'From Beyond' (for 2 soprano, piano, percussion and actor), premiered at Kings Place, London in January 2012; 'The Journey' (for chamber orchestra), premiered by the St Paul's Sinfonia and conducted by Andrew Morley at St Paul's church in March 2011; 'Parting' (for string quartet and dance), premiered by the Wu quartet at the Greenwich International String Quartet Festival in April 2011; ' Starless' (for 4 harps), premiered at Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the Ether Festival in Marh 2011; 'Scribbles' (for small orchestra), conducted by Gregory Rose and premiered at Blackheath Halls in September 2010; 'Agrippina's Descent' (for violin and electronics), premiered by acclaimed violinist Darragh Morgan at the Old Royal Naval College in May 2010; 'Musing' (for wind quintet) premiered at the London New Wind Festival, Regent Hall in November 2009; and 'Lady M' (for wind quintet, soprano and electronics) premiered by the London Myriad Ensemble at St Mary le Strand church in Holborn in June 2008. 

Her composing credits for theatre include 'The History of the Pomegranate' (Sir John Mills Theatre - Pulse Festival - Tower Bridge Gallery and Stoke Newington International Airport, Ahh Productions, 2009); 'Reminiscence' (Jacksons Lane, Theatre DaCapo, 2008); 'Wherever I Hang: A Hip Hop Ballet' (Arcola Theatre, London, 2007); Shuti (Theatre 503, LaLa Collective, 2005).
